100+ Soccer Passing Drills (Free PDF) – U6 to Pro Level
Passing is the heartbeat of football. It doesn’t matter how fast or strong your players are; if they cannot keep possession, they cannot control the game.
Whether you are coaching a U8 grassroots team or a high-performance Varsity squad, having a diverse library of soccer passing drills is essential to keep training fresh and challenging.
In this guide, we have categorized over 100 effective passing exercises into three levels: Fundamental, Intermediate, and Advanced. You can browse the detailed session plans below or download the complete PDF at the end of this article to print for your next practice.
Part 1: Fundamental Passing Drills (U6 – U10)
Focus: Mechanics, fun games, and high repetition.
At this age, players need to master the basics: locking the ankle, planting the non-kicking foot, and weighting the pass correctly. Avoid static lines; use games where players must keep their heads up.
Featured Drill: “Soccer Marbles”
Listed in PDF as: “Soccer Marbles”

A fantastic game for young players (U6-U8) to learn passing accuracy and weight control without realizing they are “drilling.”
- Setup: Pairs. Each player has a ball.
- The Action:
- Player A kicks their ball 5-10 yards away.
- Player B must try to hit Player A’s ball with their own ball.
- If they hit it, they get a point. If they miss, their ball stays where it stopped, and it is now Player A’s turn to try and hit Player B’s ball.
- Coaching Points:
- Accuracy: Use the inside (side-foot) for precision, not the toes.
- Weight: If you kick it too hard and miss, your ball will go far away, making your next shot harder.
- Fun: Keep the score competitive!

Part 2: Intermediate Passing Patterns (U11 – U14)
Focus: Angles, timing, and receiving on the “back foot”.
Once players can kick the ball straight, we need to teach them combinations. These drills focus on the “Wall Pass” (1-2), the “Third Man Run,” and opening up body shape to play forward.
Featured Drill: The Passing Square
Listed in PDF as: “The Passing Square – Two Touch, One Touch”

A fundamental grid drill used by academies worldwide to teach the mechanics of the “wall pass” and timing.
- Setup: 4 cones in a square (10-15 yards apart). 1 Player at each cone, but 2 players at the Start Cone.
- The Pattern:
- Player A passes to Player B and follows their pass.
- Player B receives across their body (2 touches) and passes to Player C.
- Progression: Switch to “One Touch” only, or add a “Give and Go” (1-2) at every corner.
- Coaching Points:
- Weight of Pass: A slow pass kills the rhythm. Punch it firmly.
- Movement: Don’t be a statue. Check away from the cone before the ball arrives.
- Communication: Call the name of the player you are passing to.

Part 3: Advanced Possession & Tactical Games (U15 – Pro)
Focus: Decision making, pressing resistance, and game realism.
Advanced passing isn’t about passing back and forth; it’s about keeping the ball under pressure. We use Rondos and Positional Games to replicate match demands.
Featured Drill: Man City Passing Game
Listed in PDF as: “Man City Passing Game (Part 1)”

This drill is designed to replicate the high-speed “Tiki-Taka” style of play, focusing on one-touch passing and moving into space immediately.
- Setup: Create a 15x15m grid. 4 Players on the outside lines, 2 players inside.
- The Action:
- The outside players must combine with the inside players to keep possession.
- The inside players are the “Link Players”—they must constantly check their shoulders, receive on the half-turn, and switch play to the opposite side.
- Every 60 seconds, rotate the inside players.
- Coaching Points:
- Body Shape: Never receive with your back fully to the game.
- Tempo: The ball should never stop moving.
- Angles: Don’t stand in a straight line with the passer; create a passing lane.

Common Questions About Passing Drills (FAQ)
Q: Can I use these drills for High School Varsity teams?
Yes. The “Advanced” section includes tactical possession games used by professional academies. These drills focus on breaking lines, switching the point of attack, and maintaining possession in tight spaces—perfect for Varsity and JV levels.
What is the difference between a passing drill and a rondo?
A passing drill is usually “fixed” (A passes to B, B passes to C). It teaches pattern recognition. A Rondo is “live” (Defenders try to steal the ball). Rondos are better for teaching decision-making and game intelligence.
How do I improve passing accuracy?
Accuracy comes from repetition under pressure. Start with unopposed drills (like the “Passing Square”) to fix the mechanics. Then, quickly move to opposed games (like 3v1 or 4v2) where defenders force the players to make faster decisions.
Are diagrams included?
Yes, the downloadable PDF includes diagrams for every single drill listed above, making it easy to set up on the training ground.
