Contents
Drill Set-Up:
- Equipment: Cones (4) and a football.
- Players: 6 players.
- Playing Area: Diamond-shaped space formed by the 4 cones (adjustable based on age and skill level).
- Duration: 10-15 minutes.
Variations:
First Variation: Basic Passing Pattern
- Player Positions: Each player stands near a cone, forming a diamond shape.
- Passing Sequence: Player 1 starts with the ball and passes to Player 2 (opposite cone). Player 2 controls the ball with one touch and passes to Player 3 (adjacent cone). The drill continues with players passing the ball around the diamond in a clockwise direction, focusing on one-touch passing and receiving.
Second Variation: Introducing One-Two Combinations
- Player Positions: Same as Variation 1.
- 1-2 Play: Player 1 starts with the ball and plays a one-two combination with Player 2 (opposite cone). Player 1 lets the ball run slightly forward before receiving it back from Player 2 with a one-touch pass.
- Continuing Sequence: Player 1 then passes to Player 3 (adjacent cone), and the drill continues with players performing one-two combinations while passing around the diamond.
Third Variation: Changing Directions
- Player Positions: Same as Variation 1.
- Alternating Directions: Players pass the ball around the diamond, but after each pass, they switch positions with the player who received the ball. This variation encourages movement, communication, and adaptability.

- One-Touch Passing: Emphasize quick and accurate passing using one touch whenever possible.
- 1-2 Combinations: Introduce variations that incorporate one-two passing plays for improved attacking flow.
Coaching Cues:
- Focus on proper passing technique: Emphasize using the laces for accuracy and power when appropriate.
- Maintain good communication: Encourage players to call for the ball and communicate effectively throughout the drill.
- Increase difficulty gradually: As players improve, gradually increase the pace of the drill or introduce variations like using different passing techniques (e.g., instep).
